8th Annual Light Up the Night & Soup Cook Off


Bellaire comes alive for the holiday season in the 8th Annual Light Up the Night and Soup Cook-Off celebration on December 2nd, 2017 starting downtown from noon until 7 pm.

Sponsored by DTE Energy Foundation

Celebrate with family and friends with a day full of Holiday Events. From a free kid’s movie, ornament making to the annual “Soup Cook-Off” with 10+ participating restaurants, a visit with Santa after the “Parade of Lights.” Don’t forget the community Tree Lighting, Caroling and a live Nativity; this is truly a family friendly event.

Purchase tickets for the Soup Cook-Off for $5/each to sample soups from 10+ area restaurants (600 tickets available). Last year’s winner was Pelican’s Nest with their Cream of Mushroom soup. The Cook-Off will run from 4:30 – 7 pm.

Other great events during the day include Holiday Pop-Up Gift Show from 9-1 at the Commission on Aging, Turkey Bowling, Ribbon Cutting for "Emma's Way," Toys for Tots Toy Drive, Friends of the Library Auction & Christmas Reading.

Bellaire is in Antrim County on M-88 between Lake Bellaire and Intermediate Lake.

9 am - 1 pm    Holiday Pop-Up - Come Shop local vendors for all your holiday gifts. Box Lunch available for here or to go $5.00 each (Sandwich, chips, drink and a cookie). For more information contact Commission on Aging (Beth Lacy) 231-533-8703.

11 - 11:30 am   Leland James will read his new book "A Mice Christmas." @ Bellaire Library (recommended ages 5-12 & adults welcome)

Leland will discuss poetry with the children and read his new book, accompanied by an on-screen presentation of illustrations. A Christmas tale in verse.

Leland James is the author of five books of poetry and a book on poetry craft. His poetry and short stories have been published worldwide and have won numerous international awards. Leland has been featured in Ted Koozer’s  (former US Poet Laureate) American Life in Poetry and was recently nominated for a Push Cart Prize.

12 - 2 pm    KIDS SCAVENGER HUNT @ Village Hall. (14 & under) Sign up @ Bellaire Village Hall – great prizes!!

2:30 pm  Free Movie Matinee @ Bellaire Theater. Bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Bellaire Food Pantry for admittance. Limited Seating.

4 - 4:45 pm:  Kids Free Ornament Making @ Village Hall

4 - 7 pm:  Community Gathering @  Broad Street.   Caroling, Cookies & Hot Chocolate and more!

4 - 7 pm: Two great additional events this Saturday setup next to Moka!

- Church in the Hills and Dave Hill are accepting clothing, especially winter clothing, in good condition for local families. They will also be taking food donations for the Bellaire Food Pantry.
- Dave Hill & Gary Lockwood will have information about the Community Ice Rink in Richardi Park this winter. All ages are welcome. For more information or to see how you can help, call Gary Lockwood at 734-392-4663.

4 – 7 pm: Turkey Bowling @ Broad Street (next to Village Hall). $1/ roll, 3 Strikes in a row for a prize. Fundraiser for the Bellaire Community In Action group (Support Bellaire High School).

4:30 - 7 pm    SOUP COOK-OFF - $5/ ticket (pre-purchase tickets). Normally the following Restaurants participate: The Lunch Box, Commission on Aging, The Pelican Nest, Moka, Short’s Brewing Company, Ruthies Dairy Twist, Bellaire Bar, Bellaire Lanes & Games, Shanty Creek Resorts, Toonies Fish & Steakhouse, and Mama's Country Kitchen 

5 pm      Ribbon Cutting for “Emma’s Way” by the Bellaire Downtown Development Authority @ Uniquely North

5:30 pm:   “Parade Of Lights” With Santa & Mrs. Claus

6 - 7 pm:    Live Nativity by Bellaire Bar  – with special thanks to Bellaire United Methodist Church

5:45-7 pm:  Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus @ Broad Street
     Caroling, Cookies & Hot Chocolate, Roasted Chestnuts, Bellaire’s Community in Action and more!

Soup Cook Off

Soup Cook-Off - Tickets $5/ each. Tickets go on Sale Nov. 4 @ Holiday Gift Fair (Limit of 600 Tickets)

Taste each participating business’s soup, get your card marked and vote in one of the Ballot Boxes (card does not need to be complete to vote). 

2017 Winner- The Pelican Nest at the Chief Golf Course with their Salmon Corn Chowder.

Get your Holiday decorations ready for our annual judging of Business & Residential Lighted Displays 

Judging will be on 11/29 & 11/30 – All decorated Bellaire business windows and/or displays will be judged.  Homes in Bellaire will be judged IF you notify the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce at 231-533-6023 or
